Toddler Action Songs!

Your toddler probably loves singing and dancing and if they are like my toddler often ask for the same songs over and over again. But what if you are tired of singing the same old songs and want to find something new? Well here are four of our faves! To pick up the tunes of the songs, you may want to pop over to youtube and watch Roland doing the actions here! Warning though, I don’t sing like Gaga!

Singing songs and rhymes are an important part of literacy development. It builds vocabulary, associates ‘doing’ words with their actions, builds memory and recall as well as uses words to have fun. Children learn through repition and singing and dancing with them is also a great way to have fun and get active.

If your child goes to kindy or preschool you will find they are used to singing and dancing to lots of different songs, and if you ask their Educators they would be more than happy to write down the words of your childs favourite songs.

Its hard to get a photo of a dancing toddler that isn’t blurry!

Sleeping Bunnies

  •  See the little bunny rabbits sleeping till it’s noon.
  • Come on now let’s wake them up to a happy tune.
  • See them still, shhh, are they ill, shhh
  • Wake up now, wake up now!
  • Hop little bunnies hop, hop, hop
  • Hop little bunnies hop, hop, hop
  • Hop little bunnies hop, hop, hop
  • Hop little bunnies hop and stop!

Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear

  • Teddy bear, teddy bear turn around
  • Teddy bear, teddy bear, touch the ground
  • Teddy bear, teddy bear, where’s your nose
  • Teddy bear, teddy bear, dance on your toes
  • Teddy bear, teddy bear, take a bow
  • Teddy bear, teddy bear, go to sleep now

Gorillas at the Zoo

  • One gorilla in the cage, the biggest in the zoo
  • The children came from miles around to see what he can do
  • He can clap his hands,
  • He can turn around
  • He can walk with four feet on the ground
  • And then he went to find a friend so they could do it too

The last line can be modified to ‘and then he quickly sat back down’ the above is for large groups of children to learn how to wait and take turns, introducing one more child with each round of the song.

An alternate to this is flamingos!

  • One flamingo in the cage, the biggest in the zoo
  • The children came from miles around to see what he can do
  • He can flap his wings
  • He can turn around
  • He can hop with one foot on the ground
  • And then he went to find a friend so they could do it too

Goanna

  • Goanna sits in the midday sun
  • But you should see goanna run
  • Ready and….
  • go goanna, go, go, go
  • go goanna, go, go, go
  • go goanna, go, go,go
  • go goanna, cherio!
Let’s make some gorilla sounds!
